Our Bodies Our Powerful #1

Happy New Year! I've been meaning to send an email for... some time. Were I sending this before the US Election, it may have begun, "Sorry for not writing sooner, I got really stoned and forgot I collected your email address." While not literally true, figuratively accurate. I don't think I'm alone in having already been morally exhausted and disengaged. I broadly agree with Rebecca Solnit in her assessment, and while I was not surprised, I've been heartbroken none the less.
My immediate concern is for the physical safety of myself and more importantly my loved ones. Only a few days after the election, as I was walking in my liberal, East Coast town did two men in a truck yell "I bet you voted for Kamala (F-slur)." And yet this is nothing new as our bodies have been under threat. Even as institutional forces prepare to enact horrific violence, I have been finding solace in moments of resistance such as the original Disco movement and the speeches of Stokely Carmichael (I'm surely on an FBI list due to the latter).
In that spirit I am announcing a new Dance Mix series, Our Bodies Are Powerful. The phrase is inspired by a tattoo on the arm of Octo Octa, Producer, DJ, and Trans-Activist who bookends this first mix (worth noting Eris Drew is Octo Octa's partner).
Another reaction to the election is that I've been even more loathe to be online and contribute to the billionaire economy so one of my New Year's resolutions is to be more deliberate in how I stream music. It is challenging but even more rewarding. I'll still be making Rudy Jude style playlists but they will be on a different, patreon-esque format and will be pulled entirely from my record collection. Details to follow!
Whether you listen to the mix or not, I hope you dance with some loved ones soon! Yours in Solidarity, DMP
